Friday 30 October is Equal Pay Day in the UK
and your opportunity to help end the gender pay gap. We are calling on individuals and groups across the country to take action and urge the government to get tough on pay inequality. Even if you only have fifteen minutes to spare - you can make a
difference.

local newspaper 30 minutes 3 hours to spare? Distribute EPD materials or visit your MP ½ day to 1 ½ days to spare? Organise an event Resources: Weve got EPD leaflets, posters and stickers for you to use. You can also download an activist pack providing you with all the information you need to make your EPD actions a
success.
The gender pay gap isnt inevitable. Equal Pay Day 2009 is your opportunity to do something about it.
Pay reporting matters: complete the EHRC survey on the Gender Pay Gap
The EHRC are consulting on proposals to measure the gender pay gap in the private sector and they are seeking the views of women who work in the private sector or the voluntary sector through a short survey.
Fawcett believes that mandatory pay audits are the quickest and most effective way of achieving transparency and preventing pay discrimination. Read our short briefing on the survey and please take the time to complete the survey. Pay reporting matters
add your voice to demand a bold approach to closing the pay gap.
Fawcett and OBJECT win highly commended award
Fawcett and OBJECT were highly commended at the 2009 Thirds Sector Excellence
Awards for our partnership work campaigning for reforms to lap dancing club licensing - a big thank you to everyone who has supported the campaign so far. But we still need your help...
Take action: Ask peers to strengthen lap dancing licensing reforms Please take a few minutes to write to the House of Lords and urge peers to strengthen proposed reforms to lap dancing club
licensing. You can download a template letter from here. While it only takes minutes to send
it could make a significant difference to the outcome of the campaign.
Fawcett and OBJECT are calling for the Governments proposed reforms to lap dancing club licensing (currently being debated in the House of Lords) to be
applied universally throughout England and Wales without exemption.
We only have three months (maximum) to convince parliament to strengthen the reforms then the Bill will proceed in to law. Weve come this far. Lets not
be sold short at this late stage.
Making ethnic minority women's voices heard
October is Black History Month. To celebrate, the Autumn edition of Fawcett's supporter newsletter
StopGap will focus on making ethnic minority women's voices heard, and how to overcome the double discrimination experience. Look out for the issue at the end of October. StopGap is sent to all Fawcett's regular donors: to join and receive your copy, click here.
New Fawcett report launched: Corporate Sexism Harriet Harman QC MP was the keynote speaker at the launch of our new report,
Corporate Sexism, which took place on 17 September at BT Tower. The report is the first in the UK to assess what impact the growth of the sex industry is having on the workplace.
The report reveals that womens equality at work is being undermined by the use of lap dancing clubs in corporate entertaining and the presence of pornography at work. The launch attracted wide-spread national press coverage.
Fawcett supporters are invited to join staff and trustees at our Annual General Meeting on Saturday 17 October from 1pm
to 4.30pm in London EC1 (nearest tube: Old Street).
The event is open to all supporters with an active regular gift to the Fawcett Society by Standing Order or Direct
Debit. Fawcett supporters are welcome to bring guests, but please note that only those with an active regular gift are entitled to vote. Angela Mason CBE (Chair) will deliver a key note speech, and you will get the chance to meet our new Chief
Executive, Ceri Goddard. To attend, please email wendy.hall@fawcettsociety.org.uk.
Fawcett Society taking part in Feminism in London 09
The Fawcett Society will have a stall at the Feminism in London event on Saturday 10 October where you can learn
more about our work and speak to staff and members of Fawcett.
The event, organised by the London Feminist Network, offers a forum to discuss and develop feminist perspectives on
topics as diverse as racism and sexism, poverty and motherhood, prostitution and more. For more
information and how to book, click here.
Volunteer opportunity: Database Genius Required
Our supporter base is growing rapidly. We
urgently need a database guru to spend some time with the Development Team reviewing the way data is handled. Experience of managing a charity fundraising database would be ideal. Click here or call Rowena on 020 7253 2598 to find out more.
Fawcett in the media
Fawcett's report 'Corporate Sexism: the sex
industry's infiltration of the modern workplace' triggered a number of articles, including a piece in the London Paper and the Independent. The Evening Standard covered a piece on a group of residents who have vowed to use the new laws
on lap dancing clubs to stop them being opened in residential areas, and Equal Opportunities
Review and Financial News Online ran pieces on the gender pay gap.
Thanks for your support, Fawcett
Established in 1866, Fawcett is the UK’s leading campaign for equality between women and men. Our vision is of a society in which women and men enjoy equality at work, at home and in public life. We campaign on women’s
representation in politics and public life; pay, pensions and poverty; valuing caring work; and the treatment of women in the justice system. We make real differences in women’s lives by creating awareness, leading debate and driving change and we have
real lobbying power. Our successes range from a change in the law to allow political parties to use all-women shortlists to increase the number of women MPs, to reform of the rape law, to a new duty on public bodies to promote equality between women and
men.
As a campaigning charity, we need your voices behind us and we are always in need of financial support. Join us today!
